MBC History
Chamonix is a world reknowned destination for climbers, alpinists, skiers and snowboarders, and everyone who enjoys the mountains and drinking a good beer. After getting tired of the same old lager served at all the bars and restaurants in Chamonix, four Canadians, two who had been living in the Chamonix Valley for over 10 years and two who made regular visits to Chamonix, thought that a micro brewery and restaurant would be a great addition to this incredible place. After one year of seriously considering the idea, and another year of reaserch, the descision to build the MBC was made. In December 2001 the ideal space in the perfect location became available, and the brewing equipment was purchased. With the assistance and support of local friends, and one special friend who came from Canada to help, it took three months of hard work to transform the old restaurant into a micro brewery and open the MBC doors to the Chamonix Valley. On March 08, 2002, the MBC opened for business with our 3 original brews, Blonde De Chamonix, Granite Pale Ale, and Stout Des Drus. A beer of the month was added a couple of months later once things were under control in the brewery, and the Blanche Des Guides was added fulltime to the line-up as of June 2003. The restaurant has evolved from the one of the owners preparing a single "plat du jour" for the first month, to a fine tuned racing machine offering a tasty menu selection of international influence. The four Canadians, Matt, Nadine, Emily, and Terry ran the brewery, bar, and restaurant alone for the first couple of months until May, when we were able to hire a chef and our first barstaff.
