About Chamonix

Situated in the heart of the Alps, Chamonix Mont Blanc is a year round resort offering a wide range of outdoor activities; from skiing and snowboarding to hiking and biking, and much more. Chamonix is also a mecca for mountaineering and climbing.

The Chamonix Valley is approximately 20 kilometers long with the Aiguilles Rouges mountain range on the north side, and the Mont-Blanc mountain range on the south side, which includes Mont Blanc itself, the highest peak in the European Alps at 4808 meters.

The highest lift in the valley is the Aiguille De Midi cablecar which brings you to anincredible 3842 meters elevation. The top station of the Aiguille De Midi cablecar has a spectacular panorama of Chamonix, the Mont Blanc, the Mer De Glace glacier, the surrounding area, and is the access point to high elevation skiing and climbing routes in the Mont-Blanc mountain range, including the world famous Vallée Blanche.

Chamonix has five major ski stations with lift systems that operate most of the year, Les Grands Montets, Le Brévent, La Flégère, Le Tour, and Les Houches. There are also several smaller lower elevation ski stations as well, Les Planards, Le Savoy, Les Bossons, Les Pélerins, Les Chosalets, La Vormaine, and La Poya over in Vallorcine.

Many other nearby ski stations in France, Italy, and Switzerland are easily accessed from Chamonix as well.

Other winter sports include, ice-climbing, cross country skiing, and snow-shoeing. Chamonix maintains two cross-country ski trails, and there are many valley bottom trails that are covered in snow during the winter months.

Summertime activities are endless. Many of the ski station lift systems are open for the spring , summer, and fall months. The lifts provide access for climbers, paragliders, hikers, nature enthusiasts, canyoners, and mountainbikers.

All these activities help create the great social scene in Chamonix. The term “Après-Ski” was probably born here! After a day up in the mountains, join us at the MBC for a fun Après-Ski, great evening entertainment, a good meal, and of course for a cold glass of fresh beer.
